The GSE ID
CoP is a Constructivist Learning Environment
Communities of practice form around content areas to help interested and
motivated learners construct new knowledge and improve
their skills through active participation in the community. Instructional
Design is a complex and multi-faceted domain, scaffolding, modeling and
mentorship are all elements that help learners make sense of the variety
of issues and problems encountered in the field. Communities of practice
are social learning tools that encourage and support knowledge sharing
and collaborative problem solving among members. The opportunity to learn
from multiple perspectives is valuable and many times necessary to approach
problem solving from a new direction. Working in a community of practice
helps to build knowledge that is informed by actual experience imparted
from the more experienced community members while elevating the knowledge
level of the novice.
